Commissary Closure Moved to Mondays

The Commissary will now be closed on Mondays instead of Wednesdays when the Furloughs kicks in. Originally DeCA had announced that they would close on Wednesdays but that has now changed to Mondays. The Commissary closure change is the result of an agreement between DeCA and the union which represents the federal employees at the Commissary. If the Commissary is already closed Mondays, which many are, it will instead remain closed on the next regularly scheduled open day. So if

Commissary ~ May Case Lot Sales Cancelled

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that because of the budget cuts/sequestration the May Case Lot Sales at all Commissaries are now cancelled. Previously they had cancelled all overseas Case Lot Sales but kept on the CONUS ones. But now all of them are cancelled. Some Commissaries may choose to hold a sidewalk sale instead but their size will be drastically reduced. They have not yet made a decision about the September Case Lot Sales. Also, all

Just a heads up for all of you who are overseas ~ The Case Lot sales that were due to run in May have been cancelled for all overseas locations. As of right now the ones within the U.S. ones are still on. This is happening in preparation of the sequestration that is due to take effect on March 1st. 2013 BAH Rates Released

The BAH, or Basic Allowance for Housing, rates for 2013 have been released. The average Basic Allowance for Housing will rise 3.8 percent in 2013, giving troops living off base their largest average increase in four years. Yet rates will drop slightly in about one in five locations, a reflection of the continued slump in some local housing markets.
